This policy brief designed by Enfold, UNFPA and Unicef, lays down the adverse impacts of criminalisation on the rights of adolescents and the justice system in India. It deconstructs the POCSO Act in India and makes the case for decriminalisation for adolescent sexuality while keeping in mind the best interests of the child. It also lays down the way forward through legal, educational and policy reforms. This policy brief by Enfold Proactive Health Trust, UNFPA & UNICEF unpacks the implications of 18 years as the age of consent on adolescents\u2019 rights under domestic law and international human rights law, and proposes a policy alternative that advances their rights and strikes a balance between their protection and evolving autonomy.
