Actress Allison Mack, who spent a decade playing Chloe Sullivan on the TV show \u201cSmallville,\u201d was indicted along with Keith Raniere last Friday on federal charges of sex trafficking and conspiracy to commit forced labor.<\/p>\n

Raniere was the leader and founder of NXIVM \u2014 a self-proclaimed self-help group that authorities allege was a cult that made women sex slaves. Victims were even branded in their pubic areas with Raniere\u2019s initials.<\/p>\n

Mack is believed to have recruited women into a \u2018sorority\u2019 run by Raniere called \u2018Dominus Obsequious Sororium,\u2019 which means \u2018Master Over the Slave Women.\u2019<\/p>\n

The two could face up to 15 years in prison if found guilty. Mack was arrested in New York City on Friday and is being held pending a bail hearing on Monday. Raniere has been in custody since he was arrested in Mexico last month.<\/p>\n

The Washington Post reports<\/strong>:<\/p>\n

The Rochester Democrat & Chronicle said Mack was indicted \u201cfor her role in DOS, a group. . . that purported to be a women\u2019s empowerment sorority.<\/p>\n

Prosecutors, however, say DOS was actually a sex-slave ring led by Raniere, with women known as \u2018slaves\u2019 who reported to \u2018masters\u2019 who ultimately reported to Raniere himself. Mack is an alleged co-conspirator, reporting directly to Raniere.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mack, 35, is alleged by prosecutors to have recruited slaves for pay, forcing the women to have sex with Raniere, and using explicit photos and damaging information to ensure their compliance.<\/p>\n

According to the Associated Press, prosecutors said Mack told recruits that they were joining a female mentorship group.<\/p>\n

The AP added that prosecutors allege that Mack and other \u2018masters\u2019 \u201crecruited slaves by telling them that they were joining a women-only organization that would empower them and eradicate purported weaknesses the NVIVM curriculum taught were common in women.\u201d<\/p>\n

Kristin Kreuk, another Smallville star, told CBS that she left NXIVM years ago and commended the women who exposed DOS.<\/p>\n

In a statement by Raniere on NXIVM\u2019s website, he proclaimed his innocence and denied any connection with DOS. However, federal court records indicate that emails seized from Raniere\u2019s private messaging accounts reveal that he created the cult.<\/p>\n
